Rings of Saturn - Dingir (2012)
How many times do you think these guys have watched the "Alien" franchise? Ah well, this dings in the whip sometimes.
Damn, back at it again with another technical as fuck deathcore album, but it's still not that interesting to me. Sure, the songs would make my fingers fucking bleed if they were somehow fast enough to maneuver themselves across a fretboard like this, and who even knows if those drums are real, but there's just not too much going on in this album in a way that entertains me outside of "damn, listen to how fast Lucas Mann can play high notes on the guitar over some chugs" which disappoints me, although this album does have some catchier moments than its predecessor, and the ending of "Fruitless Existence" hints at something -more- to the music that they could have if they focused on a more dramatic, atmospheric approach to their music on occasion rather than just nonstop high screams and low growls (provided by the awesome new vocalist Ian Bearer, I forgot to add), you can hear something going on in these songs, regardless, but at the same time, it just feels.. Gimmicky? When every song's main selling point is its technicality, it stops feeling impressive a few tracks in, as any hair you have has already been effectively blown back by that point.
6/10
