Cattle Decapitation - The Harvest Floor (2009)
They probably should've named this album "Yep, ANOTHER Album About The Meat Industry."
As of writing, one of my dogs, Maggie, died today. We're not sure if she was hit by a car or shot in the leg, but she passed peacefully with my mother by her side. We even took her to a local animal hospital to be cremated so we could have her in the house still. She was one of the best damn dogs in the entire world and my life's quality has lessened by not being able to go outside and pet this gigantic, horse-like dog anymore, which was the only way you could get her to eat: You'd have to pet her head and tell her what a good girl she was before she'd even eat. That's just the kind of dog Maggie was. Cattle Decapitation undoubtedly shares my love for animals, given that pretty much all of their albums have lyrical content that deal with animal abuse and stuff of that nature, with the whole "LET'S PUT HUMANS THROUGH THE SAME STUFF THEY PUT ANIMALS THROUGH" which makes me feel a bit better listening to their music because it's not just senseless five-dollar words about violence like Cannibal Corpse or every other band that tries to be Cannibal Corpse. They've upped their game on this album by generally having better songs, better production, and much better instrumentation: The guitars have plenty of little memorable bits instead of just being noisy, and the drums actually get used to pretty great effect here, favoring using the entire drum kit in the course of a song instead of just being non-distinguishable blasts of kick drums and snares. This still ain't great, but it's good.
Goddamn I miss my dog.
