NO (NO) SLEEP (SLEEP) TILL BEDTIME (BEDTIME)!!!

Strapping Young Lad, No Sleep 'till Bedtime, live album, SYL, Far Beyond Metal, Home Nucleonics, Devin Townsend, Gene Hoglan

I've been drinking coffee lately. I went my entire life without even trying it once, and just earlier I had two cups and holy FUCK I had to shit. My colon felt like it was going to explode! Similarly, this live album begins spectacularly: An acapella of the calm ending of "In the Rainy Season" leading into the fast-paced DING DING DING and explosion of "Velvet Kervorkian" and it's fucking BRILLIANT the way that it's executed, but let's be real: This album isn't really that much different than "City" aside from the fact that it obviously doesn't sound as good, has a few tracks from "Heavy as a Really Heavy Thing", the first appearance of "Far Beyond Metal" and two bonus studio tracks that I honestly don't really care for. Sure, on this album, you can hear Devin Townsend scream "GET DOWN THERE AND SUCK MY BUDDY'S COCK!!" during "Oh My Fucking God", and I sure do hope that someone complied with that polite request, but while it's actually really impressive to see how well the band can play live, especially with just how well Devin can execute his vocals live without his lungs collapsing, it's good, but there's no real reason to choose this over "City" except to partially experience a band that you'll likely never have the chance to see live again. Fun time, but definitely not essential.
