Lights - Daytrotter Session (12/3/2009) (2009)

Why the fuck would you make Lights green for the album cover? Isn't she more of a.. I don't know, purple? Purple is also the color of royalty, according to my stoner friend. Feel free to ask him.

Oh wow, something is wrong here. The songs sound really muddy and awkward (just listen to how overbearing the synth is in "River" compared to the guitar), and the addition of (what I assume is) a live drummer playing against the electronic instrumentals sounds pretty awkward, considering the original studio tracks use programmed, poppier drums. Now, I have no idea just who was accompanying Lights during this live session, but I -assume- there was no guitarist, given how it sounds like they just used a backing track, but one of the worst things on here is the fact that Lights sounds like she's singing through some kind of tube.. And it sucks, because if you actually pay attention to this live session, they're nailing everything (even if the addition of a live drummer fucks with the vibe) the way it should, but it just sounds kinda shitty, like whoever was in charge of the live sound needs a firm talking to, and not to deflect any criticism of the performance, but it honestly sounds like, given Lights' vocal performance during "Drive My Soul" that Lights is giving her 100%, actively trying to work around the trainwreck that is the live-audio, but thankfully for her, "Pretend" actually sounds decent, given that there isn't much going on in that song aside from piano and her vocals. I love Lights, but this performance, due to the shitty live sound, is just kinda.. Okay. Not the worst, though.
