$UICIDEBOY$ x Pouya - $OUTH $IDE $UICIDE (2015)
Can we seriously just take a moment to appreciate how amazing that cover art is? The palm trees representing Pouya being from the sunny Florida, and the storm in the sky representing $UICIDEBOY$' variety of gloom and darkness, coming together in a photo to effectively contrast each other. It's really fucking brilliant.
It appears that after their collaboration (of the same title of this mixtape) that appeared on "High Tide in the Snake's Nest", they couldn't help but collaborate on more tracks together, and aside from their obviously great musical chemistry, it really worked out great for both artists' careers, being that $UICIDEBOY$ were still relatively unknown and were suddenly being exposed to Pouya's (at the time) much larger fanbase, and Pouya getting the chance to rap over absolutely fucking killer production provided by $crim. Great business move from everyone involved being that everyone, including the listener, got something great from this release. I think a big and reasonable question about this release before hearing it is "are they really going to mash that well together?" but I assure you: From $crim's deep-voiced depressing and violent raps, Ruby da Cherry's spastic and unpredictable flow, and Pouya's southern-rap tinged voice and flow, this is a trio to be fuckin' remembered.
"Cold Turkey" is one fucking HELL of an opening track, sampling Future's "Shit" for the chorus, and in it, we're immediately introduced to the trio's amazing musical chemistry. Sure, we all knew that $crim and Ruby da Cherry go together like peanut butter and jelly, cheese and hamburgers, alcoholic put-downs and my dad, etc, but Pouya comes through with some fuckin' heat the finish the song off. "One shell to your back, you a ninja turtle"?! Holy hell! Right after it is "Muddy Blunts", which, if you're anything like me and the people I've shown it to, you'll really not like this song at all the first, second, or maybe even third time you listen to it, because it's pretty slow and (aside from the first verse provided by Ruby da Cherry) slathered in autotune and has a chopped and screwed hook, but lo and behold, it'll eventually click with you and you'll acknowledge it as being one of the chillest and smoothest songs you've ever heard that's fucking -great- for when you are actually #BLUNTED #THE #FUCK #OUT on a hot day with a beer in your hand.
Following that chill track, "Runnin' Thru the 7th with My Woadies" is pretty fucking chill and features a very prominent sample of "Never Cry Again" by Dash Berlin, and the last verse by Pouya is pretty entertaining because it starts out expressing emotional doubt in his current relationship before taking a turn for the worst. After those two chill tracks, we have "Gluttony" which has the $UICIDEBOY$ musical trope of having a Three 6 Mafia sample for a chorus, but the beat fucking bangs, and the piano, for some reason, reminds me of the theme for "Cheers". Finally, after all of that, we go up to the title track (yes, the one that was on "High Tide in the Snake's Nest" although I've heard talk that it -might- be remastered) that initially kicked off their collaborations, and DAMN THIS SHIT IS GOOD!! It's eerie, it's overwhelming, it's SINISTER.. Until Pouya starts talking about cleaning up shit from a rim of a toilet. What the fuck?! But other than that, GOAT. This mixtape is fucking killer and MOTHERFUCK YOU if you say otherwise. Here's hoping for a sequel! Er, I mean.. A $EQUEL!! HA! Can I be a $UICIDEBOY yet?! Please?! I can't write or rap but I can recite the alphabet pretty fast!! I'm not even joking: I just timed it and I can say the entire thing in 4.35 seconds! Hot damn!! I nearly burned my fucking mustache with that fire, holy shit.
