Pouya - Underground Underdog (2016)
I think that might just be the most stereotypically Pouya album cover you could make.
You know what's great? When you go into the bathroom at McDonald's and there isn't a homeless dude trying to sell you some bootleg Drake albums with album covers of a fucking helicopter exploding behind Drake. You know what's also great? Pouya rapping over Getter's production, FUCK! The beats on here are GOOD!! Sure, Getter still hadn't gotten his feet completely wet in bombastic-ass hip-hop beats, but Pouya flowing like running water over his production is pretty great. On this album, Pouya comes through with (at least up to this point in his discography) his absolute best and most consistent material that really makes you feel like the album title is pretty accurate: This dude has the potential to blow the fuck up and drop a classic, and with this album, he takes a big ol' step forward in eventually achieving that goal with a little help from his friends ($UICIDEBOY$, Germ, RVMIRXZ, etc), and really, with a voice and flow like Pouya's, all you need is some good production to back it, so the guest features on this album (can you fucking believe he got the Ying Yang Twins on "Badonk (feat. Ying Yang Twins)"?! That song is funky as FUCK!) are pretty nice icing on the cake. One thing I also have to commend this album for is the fact that it's 14 tracks long, just short of 37 minutes, because most of the songs on here aren't that long, and I feel like that really helps the album because beats typically aren't given the time to get monotonous. Good shit, good shit, good shit, yeah. How the fuck do I end this review? Uh.. Did you know that the coefficient of friction of a banana on hardwood flooring is 0.083, while ice has a coefficient of friction of 0.05, making a banana almost as slippery as ice? You do now.
8/10
