Macklemore - The Language of My World (2005)

What if it was sign-language and the album was instrumental. That is a lame joke. I want to die really badly.

I don't get it: He was, by all means, a great rapper on this album, "B-Boy" is a great example of that.. But the songs here aren't too good, he comes across as overly preachy about social issues, which, yeah, I fuck with artists who talk about social issues if they do it in a creative and entertaining way, but Macklemore sounds more like he's fucking terrified and trying to find something to justify his place in hip-hop. When you combine that with rants about preserving hip-hop, conspiracies, and joke songs, it's just fucking insufferable at times, and even worse: It can seriously sound like he's going to burst out singing "HAVING FUN ISN'T HARD WHEN YOU'VE GOT A LIBRARY CARD!!" at any moment! What the fuck?! Seriously. I don't know what was wrong with him when making this, because with Macklemore's old talent, this album had some fuckin' potential to be a great underground hip-hop album.. Maybe even a classic.
