Panic! at the Disco - iTunes Live (2011)
They sure do like to make exclusive live releases for iTunes, don't they?
Is it the band's "thing" to do different, more stripped-down versions of their songs live or were they just unable to replicate the full nooks and crannies of their own music live? Who knows! ANSWER: NOT ME! That's why I asked, you fucking moron! Anyhow, this live album is actually pretty neat, especially when compared to the band's previous live albums/EPs. The versions of the songs on here are pretty stripped-down to the point where your mom would like it, and it's nice to just kick back and relax with it. Brendon's voice is on point, the guitars have a nice and warm sound to it, the production is great and definitely makes use of proper stereo sound through each speaker/headphone. This all combined with Brendon Urie's friendly quips to the audience in between songs gives the live album a real intimate experience between the band and the audience. I'd definitely pay a fair bit to see them do something like this live!
This all being said, when they perform songs from "A Fever You Can't Sweat Out", such as "But It's Better If You Do" and "I Write Sins Not Tragedies", things can be a bit awkward because those songs are wordy as shit and were hard for them to even make the words -work- in the original versions of the songs, so to say. All in all, this live album is probably not going to blow you away, but I could see this live album even making people who had heard the original versions of the songs and disliked them turn a new leaf, especially in the case of "New Perspective", which is particularly lovely sounding on this album. What's with these guys, eh?! Gucci shit.
