Plagiarize this fuckin' dick

The Dillinger Escape Plan, Plagiarism, Wish, Like I Love You, Greg Puciato, Chris Pennie, Ben Weinman, Liam Wilson

A release exclusive for iTunes, and guess what? I love this band but this kinda fuckin' blows. You get a radio edit of "Unretrofied", which, really, why the fuck would you wanna listen to that, and also a live version of "The Perfect Design", but the remaining four tracks are COVERS! Now, I love when DEP does covers because they typically butcher the ever-living fuck out of them (in a good way) and make them their own, but what the fuck is the purpose of these? I shit you not: A band as chaotic and heavy as The Dillinger Escape Plan covering Nine Inch Nails, Massive Attack, Soundgarden, and even fucking JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE shouldn't sound nearly EXACTLY the same as the original songs! The only real difference I hear is just, naturally, that it's Greg Puciato singing and not the original vocalists, but that ends up sucking when you listen to the cover of Nine Inch Nails' song "Wish" and Greg Puciato doesn't put any effort into putting in an aggressive performance like Trent Reznor did on the original track. It's kind of appalling, really.

I don't know why the band recorded this, I really don't. Was it to show people that they can perform "normal" music exactly like the originals? Who was won over by that? Was anyone really itching to hear Greg Puciato essentially put on a weird Chris Cornell karaoke impression in "Jesus Christ Pose"? On a side note, did you know they performed their cover of Justin Timberlake's "Like I Love You" live with Mike Patton years before this EP ever came out? If you ever wanted to hear Mike Patton sing a Justin Timberlake song, well, you're in luck, motherfucker!! If you wanted to hear DEP rip through all of the cover songs and really make them their own, feel free to check out finger-poppin' tunes like "My Michelle" and "Fight the Power" for DEP covers done right.
