New Found Glory - Tip of the Iceberg (2008)

New Found Glory, Tip of the Iceberg, Dig My Own Grave, If You Don't Love Me, No Reason Why, Here We Go Again, Cut the Tension, Joga
You haven't heard the tip of the fuckin' iceberg about what happened with the Titanic. I didn't really think the opening of this through.

New Found Glory, Tip of the Iceberg, Jordan Pundik, Chad Gilbert, Steve Klein, Ian Grushka, Cyrus Bolooki, EP

"I've heard of this band before! I should check them out." A 14 year old (and excited) version of myself said while looking at this CD in a Best Buy back in 2008. "New Found Glory? What is their new found glory? Jesus?" My very religious ex-brother-in-law responded, unaware of the fact that you can make it through an entire conversation without awkwardly shoehorning talk of your religious views into it. Ah well, he was a cool guy before the thing, y'know? Real cool guy until the thing. Anyhow, as appalled as I was by that conversation, I didn't become an alcoholic to drink away that specific memory, I became an alcoholic to have shit to bitch about online, but THANKFULLY this EP isn't one of those things! This EP sees New Found Glory with three new (short) songs, and they also pay some tribute to their hardcore punk heroes that they grew up listening to in the form of three (four if you have the bonus track of Björk's "Jóga", which.. I have an assumption that it wasn't especially popular in the hardcore punk scene) cover songs by Gorilla Biscuits, Lifetime and Shelter. Groovy.

This shit is pretty good! The three new tracks are catchy, and so are the covers, which are very respectfully done and shouldn't disappoint fans of said bands. This EP generally just has some feel-good-even-though-you're-sad vibes irradiate from this EP in the form of Jordan Pundik singing. No, really, just that: Jordan Pundik is adorable, and if you disagree, you're fucking blind and also deaf and coincidentally really fucking stupid. This EP blazes through at (keep in mind, disregarding the bonus track of "Jóga") at a very lean 12 minutes, which means that while it leaves you wanting more, it definitely doesn't outstay its welcome and make you want to "turn that punk rock shit off" like your dad would say if you were a character in a comedy movie from the '90s who was desperately wishing to move out. Nothing -great- but this is a pretty good mood-appetizer to get you in the frame of mind to get a straight-edge X tattooed on the back of both of your hands while blaring NYHC positive hardcore in the deck.

7/10
