SLMDNKASR - The Jefe Tape (2012)
The album cover kinda looks like something that'd be graffiti on a wall in the background of a scene of "The Nutshack". You ever look at a word and repeat it in your head until it doesn't even sound like a word anymore? You really only need to repeat "graffiti" twice until you think "what the actual fuck is this assortment of sounds?!" and put down the crack-pipe to feed your shitty-ass kids that you haven't fed in four days. The life of an O.G. is the life all of us aim for, only to end up on a cloud, but you? You're living the fucking dream.
Alright, I'm done being off-topic: You know what's fucking lame? I'll fill you in: Before Dead Locust recruited Mike Patton as their vocalist, they had a song (with Gabe Serbian on vocals) that they released online called "We'll Sleep When They're Dead" and it was fucking KILLER!! Now it's been taken down and I cannot find it anywhere. It's such a fuckin' drag, dude. Anyhow, SLMDNKASR (short for slamdunkasaur, of course, you fuckin' dumbass, I HATE you) is the producer alias of $UICIDEBOY$ legend Ruby da Cherry, and this is an instrumental affair with Ruby behind the boards instead of his cousin $crim. Whereas $crim's production is generally dark and bass-heavy, Ruby's production feels a lot more colorful and vibrant at the cost of not being as well detailed and fluid, but also can give off a bit of J Dilla vibe at times, which is pretty surprising, but most of them don't really do much for me, even if I could totally picture 2008-era Lil Wayne going over "Predator" and fucking destroying it. Seriously, even though that beat is pretty simple, it's good as shit.. Just wish we could've heard Ruby rap over some of these tracks, but you know, in the words of a wise man: "Ah fuck, who shat my pants?! Goddamn these fucking COMMUNISTS!!" Ah, grandpa, your dementia is the greatest entertainment a boy could ever wish for!!
