When's the last time you actually ate apple sauce? Think about it.

Still before he grew interested in rapping, here's another sorta-instrumental/remix release from Childish Gambino back when he was known as mc DJ, remixing Fiona Apple songs this time around. To be honest, it still ain't great, and I don't have a lot to say about it, but "All I Need", a remix of Fiona Apple's "On the Bound" is GREAT and I was very shittily freestyling over it while listening to it. It's begging someone to go over it and do some interesting shit. It's so colorful and full of life.. To a fault, because it makes a good portion of the rest of the album sounds pretty bland in comparison. That being said, "(Apple) Besides", a remix of "The Way Things Are", is pretty interesting but still falls in the shadow of that killer track before it.

Another interesting moment comes in "Shades and Shadows", a remix of Fiona Apple's "Never is a Promise" in which mc DJ remixes it to the point where it sounds like glitch music, but still nothing I'd really bump in the whip. Funny thing to note: Fiona says in one song "The shades and shadows undulate" but it sounds like "The shades and shadows, I'm JULAAAY" like she was revealing her true identity to our beloved CWC. That's some funny shit! Kind of!!

This album showed to me what a creative career Childish Gambino could've had instrumentally if he had stuck to remixing songs and maybe rapping over them, but is still relatively half-baked quality-wise.

6/10
