We Are the In Crowd - Guaranteed to Disagree (2010)

We Are the In Crowd, Guaranteed to Disagree, Never Be What You Want, For The Win, Lights Out, Both Sides of the Story, EP, first album

From the title of it, it sounds like a concept album of you talking with your father about politics, but sadly, that lyrical theme is never explored, but the theme of failed relationships sure as shit is!!

We Are the In Crowd, Tay Jardine, Jordan Eckes, Mike Ferri, Rob Chianelli, Cameron Hurley, band, WATIC

It's just a known fact: Any time a pop-punk band with a female vocalist comes out with an EP or album, they're instantly compared to Paramore, or more specifically, Hayley Williams. Thankfully, vocalist Tay Jardine has a nice, unique tone that doesn't come across as Hayley Williams-esque at all! Even more unique to this band is the fact that they actually have two vocalists, a girl AND a boy! Vocalist/guitarist Jordan Eckes is a good sidekick but his vocals do tend to end up a bit flat compared to Tay Jardine's. Ah well, it's WUTEVA \m/

Given that the band (to my knowledge) were just a bunch of teenagers at the time of recording, this album consists solely of tracks concerning relationships and love, and man, you can FEEL the sarcastic passive-aggressiveness in some of it! Reminds me of being a teenager.. AND I HATE THAT SHIT. Being a teenager sucks ass! Ah well, at least it serves as a musical example of the type of angst that can only come from loving and hating someone at the same time, right? I mean, vocalist/guitarist Jordan Eckes can't even bring himself to say "Bitch" without it sounding entirely forced on "We Need a Break", which brings me to my second note: This EP probably has the most profanity that I've seen a modern pop-punk band use outside of Blink-182, and it's pretty awkward sounding, whether it be a "damn", "shit", or even a "Goddamn". Don't let your mom catch Tay Jardine and Jordan Eckes corrupting your innocent mind with these satanic scriptures of teen angst!!

See, at seven tracks long, it doesn't outstay its welcome, but truth be told: "Never Be What You Want" featuring vocalist Will Pugh of Cartel is the only -great- song on here! The rest of the tracks are catchy, but I haven't ever found myself manually choosing to listen to them. They serve as good padding, not necessarily filler, but it does feel like there's a bit of drop in quality in the other songs on the EP, and that they may not be able to stand on their own individual legs as songs by themselves.

But hey, it's a start!

6/10
