Tyler, the Creator - Wolf (2013)
So "Goblin" was pretty successful for some fuckin' reason, I guess because people really liked "Yonkers" and didn't even bother to check the Amazon song previews before blindly handing their money over, and he complains about how hard the fame is to deal with on this album a fair bit, with how he keeps trying to get across the message of "I'm not a fuckin' role model." despite having songs where he tries to be exactly that, and just comes across as his interpretation of "The Marshall Mathers LP" with a weird concept of being at a summer camp and telling the story of two boys (both voiced by him) and a girl, but the story really ain't anything worth paying attention to. It's definitely more mature than any of his previous work up to this point, but that's not really saying too much.
Sure, he's matured a bit, and doesn't rap about rape AS MUCH as before, still does but not quite as much, which I guess is good? But anyway, his rapping is pretty much the same aside from some more hype tracks like "Domo23" and the pretty fuckin' great "Rusty (Feat. Domo Genesis & Earl Sweatshirt)" but these moments don't last for long until Tyler's monotonously rapping over dark production about some edgy shit again.
His production has gotten better but in a different way: He doesn't rely on synths as much anymore, but they're still a blemish on an already blister-infested ass. I don't even know what all I can say about this album aside from the fact that it's still shit but with a few good tracks hidden in it, like the catchy "Cowboy", the hard as shit "Rusty (Feat. Domo Genesis & Earl Sweatshirt)", the ridiculous and hype "Trashwang (Feat. Na-kel, Jasper, Lucas, L-Boy, Taco, Left Brain & Lee Spielman)", but God do I get bored listening to this shit.
